What is the leverage in crypto?

Leverage in trading refers to using borrowed capital to trade cryptocurrencies or other financial assets. It amplifies your buying or selling power so you can trade with more money than you currently have in your wallet. Depending on the crypto exchange you trade on, you could borrow up to 500 times your account balance (like on the EXEX platform).

The amount of leverage is described as a ratio, such as 1:5 (5x), 1:10 (10x), or 1:20 (20x). It shows how many times your initial capital is multiplied. For example, imagine you have $100 in your exchange account but want to open a position worth $1,000 in Bitcoin (BTC). With a 10x leverage, your $100 will have the same buying power as $1,000.

You can use leverage to trade different crypto derivatives. The common types of leveraged trading include margin trading, leveraged tokens, and futures contracts.

Trading terms every trader should know

Read a short article about the most important terms in crypto trading.

What are longs and shorts?

Both terms are connected to the position that traders open.

Longs are positions that you open when you expect the asset price to grow. Therefore, you buy it and hold the position until you can sell it at a higher price. Once the position is closed, the difference between the closing and opening price of the position becomes your profit.

Shorts are positions when you borrow some part of an asset to buy it later because you believe the price will decrease. Once you are ready to close the short position, you buy it at a lower price and keep the difference between the initial and closing price, which becomes your profit.

You can also use multipliers to increase your potential profit.

What is a bull and bear market?

Bulls are traders who expect the price to rise, enter into a contract to buy assets, and wait for the next rise to sell higher, profiting from the difference in value. The bulls stimulate the increase in asset prices.

How to read candlestick charts?

A candlestick chart is a visual representation of the size of price fluctuations. A trader uses a candlestick/diagram to identify a particular trading pattern to predict the short-term direction of a stock or asset value.

What are fundamental analysis and technical analysis?

Fundamental analysis is when you examine news and factors that might affect the asset. You can use different reports or even Twitter posts to estimate the potential of one or another cryptocurrency.
